President Judge Emeritus Richard A. Sprague
Judge Sprague was sworn in as a Judge of the Court of Judicial Discipline on August 17, 2004. On July 19, 2005, he was elected President Judge of the Court, with his term beginning August 17, 2005.
Judge Sprague graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1953.
Judge Sprague served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service during World War II.
He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New York, as well as being admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, various District Courts and Circuit Courts of Appeals.
Judge Sprague was formerly the First Assistant District Attorney of Philadelphia and served as Special Prosecutor for Washington County, PA, Allegheny County, PA and Delaware County, PA.
He was formerly Chief Counsel and Director of the House of Representatives Select Committee on Assassinations investigating the murders of President John F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He served as Special Counsel to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Judicial Inquiry and Review Board. He has been a lecturer on Trial Tactics in Criminal Trials and on Advanced Criminal Procedure at Temple University School of Law.
Judge Sprague was formerly a member of the Pennsylvania Judicial Conduct Board, as well as the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board, and was a former member of the U.S. Senate Judicial Nominating Commission.
He is in private practice with the law firm of Sprague & Sprague engaged in general, civil and criminal practice; state and federal litigation, antitrust and corporate litigation, trial and appellate practice.
